What is a lactation counselor?
A certified lactation counselor by Healthy Children’s Center for Breastfeeding is a women trained to help mothers who meet difficulties with breastfeeding and/or to answer their questions.
When do you need help from a lactation counselor?
- babies with latch-on problems or slow weight gain
- babies with physical or developmental problems
- premature infants
- multiples
- mothers with flat, inverted, or sore nipples
- mothers with an insufficient milk supply
- to weight your baby
- for questions about pumping and milk conservation
- mothers with specific medical conditions
- weaning
All mothers who encounter problems with breastfeeding should call for help!
But if you have more complex breastfeeding issues, the lactation counselor will refer you to a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
When to contact me
You can join me during your pregnancy and we can set up a prenatal visit. During this visit, I can answer your questions about the following topics and more:
- previous breastfeeding problems
- breast reduction
- premature baby
- c-section
Or you can join me after the delivery and I will visit you at home to find a solution to your problem.
My fees are $60 for a 2-hour visit.
My focus as a lactation counselor is to provide education, assistance and support to breastfeeding women.
